Ortiz and Griffin again put in a back and forth effort in the main event of UFC 106. Just as in their first meeting this one ended in a split decision but with Griffin coming out the victor. Both fighters made the case for a third meeting at the post fight presser, and a rubber match could be in the former champions futures. As for the co-main event Koscheck was able to get the submission victory over the explosive, yet less experienced, Anthony Johnson. After the bout Koscheck called out Dan Hardy stating that he is not the number one contender in the division and that he hasn't fought anybody to warrant his position. Koscheck's teammate Phil Baroni was not so successful in his return bout in the UFC. The Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah was able to weather the early storm from Baroni and pick him apart throughout the remainder of the fight to get the decision victory.
