ARCE CHAMPION AGAIN

WBO Jr. Bantamweight champion

Jorge Arce W 7 Angky Angkota SCORES: 60-54, 60-54, 58-56

An accidental headbutt caused a cut over the right eye of Angky Angkota, and the fight had to be stopped in the 7Th round. Arce was ahead on points and the stoppage from the butt occurred after the fourth round so it went to the score cards. Arce looked good and was motivated to pick up the WBO Jr. Bantamweight title. This win can be compared to and earlier fight of his but it turned out the other way and I don't think this will be Arce's last fight. It reminded me of when he fought the older past his prime Michael Carbajal and he lost. At the time Arce was only 20-2-1 and Carbajal was 49-4, he lost an 11Th round TKO to the veteran. This time it would be different he was 53-6-1, and Angkota was 23-4. It is amazing that we get to see these older guys still going strong and beating younger guys and taking there titles. I know he is only 30 years old but in boxing when you have fought like Arce 30 is considered old. This fight ensures one thing it will definitely bring at least 1 more big money fight for the 30 year old. Now that he has the WBO Jr. Bantamweight title he will have something to offer a top ten guy. I am just glad I got to see the very entertaining Travieso get at least one last world title. I'm glad that we got to see boxing on regular cable TV let alone a great champ like Arce.

I actually do not agree. We did not see an improved or better or even worthy Arce. He didn't fight a champion, he won a vacant championship. In other words he didn't fight anyone worthy of him saying, I am a champion because I beat a champion. Arce, should retire, you could tell he was getting very tired with every round that passed and was getting hit very hard and often. Also that stoppage was completely premature. The cut over the guys eye was to the outside of his eye, the blood was not affecting his view in anyway. Seems like some favortism was used so Arce could win. Even Julio Cesar Chavez commented that Arce was not fighting propertly. I think once he fights someone that is a champion, Arce will again show that it is time to hangup the gloves.
