BOXING ON THIS WEEK

02/24/2010
Omar Narvaez (30-0-2, 19 KO) VS. Santiago Acosta (16-4-2, 7 KO)
WEIGHT CLASS: Flyweight 112 lbs
BELTS: WBO Flyweight Title
WHERE: Estadio Socios Fundadores, Chubut, Argentina
WHY: This is a chance to see a good young flyweight showcase his skills, plus he is a champion. El Huracan is also the number 6h ranked flyweight by the "Bible of Boxing", The Ring Magazine. The flyweight division is deep from top to bottom and it landscape can change in a blink of an eye because they are that good. He should beat this guy with ease but I have seen crazier thing happen in the sport that I love.

02/25/2010

Victor Ortiz (25-2-1, 20 KO) VS. Hector Alatorre (16-8, 5 KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: Jr. Welterweight 140 lbs
BELTS: NA
WHERE: Club Nokia, LA, California (FOX)
WHY: This guy is young and he need to prove to people that he is not an over-hyped quitter. Since his loss to Marcos Maidana everyone has rightly questioned his heart. He is a young, talented, explosive, and all that adds up to potential. He is lined up to fight the cagey veteran, and ex-champion Nate Campbell. He will have to have heart if he has any chance to win that one. Luis Ramos, Charles Huerta, and Jesse Vargas are also on that card.

02/26/2010
Antonio Escalante (22-2, 14 KO) VS. Miguel Roman (25-5, 17, KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: Featherweight 126 lbs
BELTS: NA
WHERE: Don Haskins Convention Center, El Paso, Texas
WHY: This year ESPN2 Friday Night Fights has really stepped up there game and have put together some real good fights. I'm afraid to miss a telecast, my Friday night starts after The final bell rings. Escalante is a decent fighter with a 22 wins and only 2 losses. Since loosing to Mauricio Pastrana, he has won 8 in a row, and 5 of them by TKO.

Rodel Mayol (26-4-1, 20 KO) VS. Omar Romero (28-3-1, 11 KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: JR. FLYWEIGHT 108 LBS
BELTS: WBC Jr. Flyweight Title
WHERE: Coliseo Olimpico de Box, Guadalajara, Mexico
WHY: Rodel Mayol is one of the best fighters in the division and that division is pretty deep. Mayol also has a knockout percentage of about about a 65, which is a good KO %. He is also The Ring Magazine # 2 ranked Jr. flyweight. This guy fought division champion Ivan Calderon to a technical draw, and technical loss, both by accidental headbutt.

Marvin Sonsona (14-0, 12 KO) VS. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (15-0-1, 12 KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: Jr. Featherweight 122 lbs
BELTS: WBO Jr. Featherweight Title
WHERE: Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico
WHY: Marvelous is a good young fighter who has held a world title before. He is another good Philippine fighter, must be something in the drinking water. This kid is a hard worker and is very fun to watch. He is 14-0 with 12 KO's that is a 80% knockout rating people.
Kendal Holt (25-3, 13 KO) VS. Kaiser Mabuza (22-6-3, 13 KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: Jr. Welterweight 140 lbs
BELTS: NA
WHERE: Bally's Park Place Hotel Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey
WHY: Rated R is one of my favorite guys to watch in any weight division. He had 2 great fights with Ricardo Torres on Showtime. He lost a close fight to Tim Bradley, in which he knocked Tim down hard 2 times. He gave Demetrius Hopkins his first professional loss, the same is said for Isaac Hlashwayo. He is hoping to get some wins and get another title shot, and defiantly a rematch with Tim Bradley. Don't miss his fight he is always entertaining and always lays it all on the line. He also wants a big fight so you know he will be out there to win big.
Mike Jones (19-0, 16 KO) VS. Henry Bruseles (28-3-1, 15 KO)

WEIGHT CLASS: Welterweight 147 lbs
BELTS: NA
WHERE: Bally's Park Place Hotel Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey WHY: That's right I said MIKE JONES, MIKE JONES, MIKE JONES, don't worry he's not out of the Swisha House camp, and I don't think he knows Paul Wall. This guy is a real good prospect and will be looking to impress on Fox Sportsnet. He is from Philly so you know he is tough and will bring it. This is his first real fight on TV, and everyone will know who he is after Saturday night. Trust me, if you only watch one fight this weekend make it this one.
