Strikeforce Results: Sarah Kaufman Tops Takayo Hashi in San Jose
Medeiros takes the cake in opening bout
Castillo wanted no part of the Hawaiian's stand up game as Medeiros dominated the wrestler from Cali standing. Castillo looked uncomfortable and intimidated by his opponent's strikes and Yancy Medeiros had superb take down defense to prevent the fight from going anywhere but on the feet. The Hawaiian takes home a solid unanimous decision.
Tarec "Sponge" Saffediene Impresses
In his debut for the promotion the Striker bested the grappler for the second fight in a row on the televised portion of the SF challengers card. Saffiedine used head movement, jabs, power shots, and clean hard kicks. This guy is one to watch out for in the Welterweight division. Tarec Saffiedine wins a well deserved unanimous decision.
Rockhold Smashes Paul Bradley
Luke Rochold started out as a wrestler but you wouldn't know it with his performance tonight. He dropped Bradley twice with punches before stopping him via TKO. You can add my name to growing bandwagon of Luke Rockhold fans as he continues his impressive win streak.
Trevor Prangley vs. Karl Amoussou Ends in Controversy
Due to an unitentional eye poke from Prangley the contest was stopped as Amoussou was unable to see out of his right eye. The fight is rendered a Technical Draw after the dust settled.
Sarah Kaufman Wins Strikeforce Title
Takayo stayed true on her word that she would stand with Kaufman, not that she would have had a choice otherwise as Sarah's TD defense was too good for Hashi to get it to the floor. Hashi was dropped twice in the opening stanza by punches from Kaufman, but Sarah played it too cautiously in the second round. Considering Hashi has zero KO/TKO victories to her credit Kaufman played it way too safe against someone who hardly had a chance at hurting her. In the third it was more of the same as Hashi was dropped once but Kaufman was not able to capitalize and finish her. The fight was largely forgettable as Kaufman has now gone the distance in all of her Strikeforce appearances. Kaufman had the skillset and power to end the fight but didn't let her hands go enough and wasn't willing to follow Hashi to the floor to try to finish her there. kaufman walks away with a unanimous decision and the Strikeforce 135lb title.
