TOP 10 BOXING PRESS CONFERENCE ALTERCATIONS

After seeing the most recent boxing press-conference dust up between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr., it made me think about prior Presser gold. It wasn't the first and it wont be the last, that's for sure. It is true that they stage these fights to to sell the fight but sometimes they get out of control and it back fires. These are some of my favorites but you can pick your own.

1. Larry Holmes VS. Trevor Berbick

This is a no-brainer any time you have Larry Holmes jumping off of a car to FIGHT someone you have a winner. Holmes assaulted Trevor Berbick before is was broken up, but it wasn't over by a long shot. Larry Holmes climbed on top of that car like a cat and jumped on his prey with no remorse. One of the most underrated heavyweights of all time gets our nod for the number one spot in this category.

2. Riddick Bowe VS. Larry Donald

After I watched this one sided vicious exchange I almost felt bad for poor Larry Donald. In a seemingly unprovoked attack Riddick unleashed a thunderous one, two combination to Donald's chin and head. He said he was defending himself, and he thought he was going to be attacked, so he got off first. From the look of utter shock on Larry's face it didn't look like he was going to puch anyone.

3. Marco Antonio Barrera VS. Erik Morales

These two warriors gave us an unbelievable trilogy but they also gave up a crazy press conference. Marco may have started the whole mess by calling Erick a maricon, that is real serious talk. The bad blood was fueled by machismo and Barrera took it to the next level by landing a pre-fight blow. Marco is known for being tough and he thought he had to prove it that night.

4. Alton Merkerson VS. Norman Stone

This fight didn't even involve the fighters it involved their trainers. Norman Stone has one of the biggest mouths in boxing and Alton Merkerson shut it for him. Stone was yelling and pushing he got to close and Coach Merk knocked him out. The fight wasn't much just Merkerson hitting Stone and Stone hitting the floor. It didn't even really shut up good old Norman because on the night of the fight he was still yelling all night.

5. Bernard Hopkins VS. Puerto Rico

It was the biggest fight of Bernard Hopkins life and he was going to be respected. Even if it ment throwing down the Puerto Rican flag in Puerto Rico. Felix Trinidad was the favorite in the middleweight tournament, that didn't matter to B-Hop. He was face to face with Tito and he took the flag and threw it to the dirt. This incited a riot and B-Hop had to get out of there asap. He ended up apologizing for his action to the people.

6. Lennox Lewis VS. Mike Tyson

This famed battle between the two champions started from the get go, and ended with a bite. Tyson and Lewis met each other and it was on Tyson came at Lewis and Lewis punched. The scuffle ended in a huge rugby scrum and Tyson and Lewis were at the bottom. Not only did Tyson get a mouthful of Lewis's punch but he also got some leg. Lewis claimed Tyson bit him in the pile and later showed marks. This one also involved Tyson's crazy rant at a photographer that everyone knows.

7. Riddick Bowe VS. Jorge Luis Gonzalez

The fight wasn't much but Riddick made the press conference quite entertaining by throwing a glass at his foe. The fighters were separated after the argument got heated, but obviously not far enough. Thank God no one was hurt during the glass flinging frenzy, and the fight was able to happen.

8. Ricardo Mayorga VS. Fernando Vargas

I guess it is really a big deal when you call someone fatty, well it was to Vargas. The event started out calm until Mayorga came out, that always seems to happen. It was funny to see Fernando looking st Ricardo with so much anger and hate. He landed the only clean blow but Ricardo won the fight. The cigerette smoking, beer drinking Nicaraguan can get under anyone's skin. We will see how he does in the MMA world I think his mouth will suit him just fine.

9. Muhammad Ali VS. Joe Frazier

Ali is known as "The Greatest of all Time" but he may well have been the greatest trash talker all so. This match up of all-time greats took place on a show with Howard Cosell. Ali was calling Joe an Uncle Tom, and ignorant. Joe didn't like it and he came at Ali and they wrestled on the floor. Imagin if you were champion and someone called you those things. I don't know about you, but I would click on crazy just like Joe.

10. James Toney VS. John Ruiz

This one didn't involve any punches but it did involve the volatile combination of James Toney and Norman Stone. James Talks in every presser and this was no different with John Ruiz in front of him. Norman Stone was yelling Toney the phony and that only pissed off James. James said he even talks in his sleep, as he called him a sissy. This is from the same man who punked out Jim Gray after he beat Evander Holyfield. It is worth watching, as a matter of fact they are all worth watching multiple times.
