Jon Jones lived up to expectations in his main event spot opposite Brandon Vera. Jones looked a bit nervous in ring before the bell rang, but quickly went to work as the fight got under way. "Bones" took Vera to the floor immediately and did so several times as he worked some ground and pound until he was illegally up-kicked by Vera. Vera was docked a point for the infraction and the action was restarted from the same position. Amazingly enough Vera landed the same illegal up-kick in which he had a point deducted for a second time, but this time it was missed by the ref and no action was taken. It didn't matter much anyways as Jon landed a vicious elbow that thuded against the side of Vera's head leading him to turn his back to Jones unable to continue. It was a strange ending to a night full of them. James Irvin was stopped by Alessio Sakara as he thought he was poked in the eye when he was indeed punched directly in the eyeball. Sakara was awarded the TKO victory thanks to the sharp eye of referee Josh Rosenthal. Paul Buentello was stopped by Cheick Kongo via elbows to the thigh which has to be a first and falls right into the Hershel Walker "arm-pit punch" victory category. Buentello was kneed while his knees were to the floor and had his pinky finger dislocated during the fight, it was not a good night for Paul. Buentello tapped to signal that he had enough after taking a thorough beating from the Frenchman. John Howard scored a highlight reel knockout win over the debuting Daniel Roberts via a punch while Roberts was on his back. That punch was followed by several others and Roberts was out for a good amount of time, with his eyes wide open no less. It bothered me that during the broadcast his well being was not commented on as he was out for a good couple of minutes and had to be helped out of the ring.
