Strikeforce LA: Babalu, Babalu, Babalu!
During the main event of one of the most entertaining fight cards so far this year, the chants emanating from the Nokia Theater were that of Renato "Babalu" Sobral as he turn Robbie Lawler's ribcage into a red and tender slab worthy of the Chili's logo. Sobral outworked Lawler with leg kicks and takedown attempts as well as some of the best hand work he has ever displayed. The Strikeforce announcing team would have you believe the fight was contested closer than it actually was due to former trainer Pat Miletich being part of the broadcast trio. Speaking of the broadcasting, due in part to being an attraction at this years E3 video game conference, the trio of voices were actually heard before the fights by the entire arena as they took on double duty for the mid-week event.
The fights were full of action with a submission by Tim Kennedy, a KO from Cyborg (Male Version!), and two close fights including a war of attrition put in by Coner Huen and KJ Noons. Noons beat and bloodied the Eddie Bravo Brown Belt and former wrestling star, but he kept coming forward and gave Noons a run for his split decision victory. Hues threatened with Kicks take-downs and sub attempts while Noons kept his sprawl and box strategy going strong for the full 15.
