Chris Arreola W12 Manuel Quezada SCORES: 117-108, 118-107, 118-107
This Friday Night Fight was a must win for Chris Arreola a top ten heavyweight. He may have got the victory, but he didn't look good while doing it. He came in at a heavy 256, which was 6 pounds more than his last weight against Tomasz Adamek. He looked OK in the first 6 rounds, but you could see his energy dropping constantly. Arreola had a guy that was right in front of him all night. Quezada had many technical flaws, and Arreola still couldn't finish him. He landed a ton of power punches, but he couldn't deliver the knockout blow. Manuel also inflicted a bunch of damage on his lethargic opponent. If it would have been a few fights ago I would have thought he wasn't in the same class as Arreola. However bad he looked got an easy decision against a guy he should have finished. He knocked him down 2 times in the 9Th round, and I thought he was going to get the KO. The next round he just had no energy and allowed Quezada to recover, and even look good. He also knocked down Quezada in the final round, but was unable to finish. After the fight Arreola gave Quezada much respect for his toughness. Chris Arreola was trying to prove that he is back, and taking conditioning seriously. He didn't prove that to me, and I don't think that he fooled anyone else. If he wants to stay in the top 10, and compete with the best, he will have to change. He needs to train longer, get a nutritionist, and stay active. I think he has all the tools to win a world title. He has power, heart, and a great chin, but he has to be in a position to use them. When he doesn't train, and is out of shape he can't be at his best. I hope he can turn over a new leaf, because there is nothing worse then wasted talent.
