Giovanni Segura KO 8 Ivan Calderon TIME: 1:34
Ivan Calderon was no match for the powerful Mexican Giovanni Segura, as he lost by KO. Ivan has escaped many close fights by questionable decisions. Segura would not let that be the case last Saturday night. Segura was relentlessly chasing Calderon all and landing powerful combination. Segura's body attack was the key to this victory. His many body shots were like money in the bank. He zapped Calderon's energy, slowing him down with his body attack. He was too strong for the feather-fisted Calderon. He put so much pressure on him from the opening bell. It would only be a matter of time before Calderon would wilt. In the 8Th round Segura was stalking like a hungry cat. He caught Ivan on the ropes and unloaded a flurry of punches to the head and body. Calderon sat down in the corner, got to one knee but did not get up. This was Ivan Calderon's first professional loss. Segura has run his record to 25-1-1, with an impressive 21 knockouts. Giovanni Segura now holds the most prized belt in boxing the Ring championship belt. He is alone as king in the Jr. flyweight division (108 lbs). He may defend his belt at 108, and collect the other titles in the division. I think he should move up to 112 and fight the flyweight Ring champion Pongsaklek Wongjonkam. He could get a huge payday in Asia, if he challenged Thailand's champion Wongjongkam. They are both heroes in their respective countries, and would make a great match up. I keep telling people that the smaller divisions have a ton to offer. They are action packed, exciting, fast paced, and most importantly fun to watch.
