Felix Sturm W12 Giovanni Lorenzo SCORES: 117-111, 117-111, 118-111
After over a year layoff Felix Sturm stepped back in the ring to defend his WBA middleweight crown. It didn't take long for the jab-heavy German to shake off the rust get get it going. After a slow first round he took charge and cruised his way to a one sided win. He used his European style of defense, and many jabs. He used his jab to control the over matched Lorenzo. He moved forward, applying his jab and right hand to Larenzo's face. He is a solid middleweight, and would give many a stiff challenge in the ring. The only problem is he really needs a big name to prove he is a great middleweight. I'm not sure who he will choose to fight? He could fight Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, or Kelly Pavlik. I wouldn't pick him to win against Martinez or Williams, but I would give him a shot against Pavlik. If he can't, or wont fight any of those 3 names he will have a big problem with respect. He has the WBA strap so people should be willing to fight him. Sturm is the Ring's number one rated middleweight. He has a 4 year unbeaten streak winning 10, most notably beating Khoren Gevor, Sebastian Sylvester, and Javier Castillejo. The Castillejo fight was the most important because he was knocked out by him 2 fights prior. Not only did he face the man who defeated him by knockout two fights earlier he beat him. I think that says a lot about his heart. A ton of time has passed since he was robbed by Oscar De La Hoya, and many are wondering if he is still that man. Sturm hasn't fought outside of Europe since that horrible decision 6 years ago. He will have to fight in America if he wants to own his own legacy, and truly become a great champion.
