Nonito Donaire casts away any doubt with TKO of Montiel

Nonito Donaire TKO 2 Fernando Montiel TIME: 2:25

Nonito Donaire is truly cemented as a pound for pound fighter after last night's destruction of Fernando Montiel. It was supposed to be a good match up of top contenders, with implications of a classic war. It ended up being a 2 round destruction, shocking many of the ringside observers. Nonito used his superior speed, and timing to catch Montiel with a perfect left hook. Fernando Montiel didn't have time to adjust as he was already taking big shots in the first. Montiel looked nothing like the champion he was. Donaire was just that much better, making short work of the Mexican native. When Montiel hit the canvas , you knew the fight was over. Somehow Montiel beat the count, only to take several more powerful blows before the referee stepped in. After the fight Donaire said he would like to unify the division. I personally would love to see him fight Anselmo Moreno, Joseph Agbeko, Abner Mares, or a super-fight in Japan against Koki Kemeda. If he can defeat everyone in his division the sky is the limit for this phenom. Names like Juan Manuel Lopez, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Chris John are lurking in the wings in the featherweight division. It was an impressive, dominating win and I can't wait to see him in action again.
