Shannon Briggs KO 1 Marcus McGee
Shannon Briggs was back in action last night in New York on The Contender Versus card
last night. Shannon won by 1ST round knockout in his return to the ring against Marcus McGee. Shannon weighed in at 272 for his ring return, which isn't that bad from a 2 year layoff after weighing 335. The punch that landed on McGee's floating ribs ended the fight at 2:01 of the 1ST round. It will be a long road back and he will have to stay dedicated if he wants any shot at a world title.
Brad Solomon w 12 Ray Robinson scores 79-73, 79-73, 76-76
Brad Solomon won this contest with his unique unorthodox style and counter punching ability. The New Ray Robinson resembled nothing of his namesake, even his corner had to remind him of his name. Robinson punches were way more wide then Solomon's, and he seemed clumsy or borderline gumpy. It is always fun to watch young pros fight in eight rounders especially when there both undefeated.
Tim Coleman W 12 Mike Arnaoutis 116-112, 115-113, 115-113
The main event pitted "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis against Tim "The Pit bull' Coleman in a close fight. Coleman boxed and moved a lot against "Mighty" Mike earning him most of the early rounds. He was able to keep Arnaoutis off of him for most of the early rounds but the tide began to change in the later half of the middle rounds. Arnaoutis started to land some harder shots behind his jab and that is when he became effective. It was a simple case of one man building up a big lead early on and the other coming on late. It was close and many ringside thought Mike was able to pull it off but that wasn't the case on the judges score cards. It wasn't the worst decision I ever saw but it wasn't good. The scores were 116-112 for Arnaoutis, 115-113, 115-113 for Coleman.
Over all it was a fun nigt of boxing and I hope that Versus will continue to put boxing cards like this on TV. We saw veteran heaveyweights, unbeaten young professionals, and former contenders trying to return to their old glory. Whether you agreed with the decision it was a good fight in the main event.
