Demetrius Andrade KO 1 Bernardo Guereca TIME: 1:18
The Providence, Rhode Island standout made it look easy with a 1ST rd knockout over Bernardo Guereca (15-9-1, 3 KOs) . The end came for Guereca at 1:18 of the first round from a nice counter right hook. Andrade (8-0, 6 KOs) looked good but he really needs to step up the competition if he wants to get better and become a champion. Andrade is a quick south paw with a great amateur background so he should fight better competition. He had over 200 amateur fights and did well in the Beijing Olympics, so he should be able to stand in there with better opposition. Bernardo took the fight on only a weeks notice so he was not to blame.
Yondale Evans W 6 Gino Escamilla Unanimous decision
Yondale scored 2 knockdowns one in the 1ST and one in the 2ND, the latter was the best. Escamilla (5-6-1, 2 KOs) got caught coming in while throwing wide punches and was knocked down hard. He showed much heart by fighting to the finale bell, but it was all for nothing because he lost anyway. Yondale Evens (5-0, 3 KOs) couldn't finish his man but he he was fighting a tough kid.
Juan Carlos Burgos TKO 12 Juan Carlos Martinez TIME: 1:07
Juan Carlos Burgos (24-0, 17 KOs) is the WBC's 3rd ranked featherweight in the world and he looked like it tonight. Burgos is a tall feather weight that likes to go to the body with left hooks. He showed a very calm ring demeanor and through his left hook all night, not to the body as much as he should of though. He won every round on Teddy's score card and was cruising to an easy victory on the cards until the 12Th. He went out in the 12Th and took out Martinez (17-11-1, KOs 7) with a flurry. The fight was called to a halt by the referee at 1:07 of the 12Th and final round. If he keeps winning he will be the mandatory challenger for Elio Rojas's WBC belt in no time. there are many other name in the featherweight division that he could fight if he got the chance. I like this kid and can't wait to see more of him.
