(The Zombie in Happier Times)
Chan Sung Jung and Leonard Garcia went out and put on a brawl of epic proportions on the WEC prelims live on Spike TV, and it will no doubt go down as one of the wildest brawls in MMA history, but that doesn't change the fact that Jung got robbed in the split decision loss tonight. This just goes to show you how hard it is for a fighter from a different country to get a decision victory while fighting abroad. Chan Sung Jung won the fight handily with more accurate strikes that greatly outscored and outlanded Garcia without a shadow of a doubt. The judging in Mixed Martial Arts needs a re-haul and this fight along with the many other bad decisions recently rendered simply highlight that fact. Garcia threw wild punches with no technique for three rounds and landed one of them to rock his opponent in the second round, but that was by no means enough to win the fight for Garcia. The Korean Zombie puts in an impressive debut in one of the craziest fights I have seen and already contender for fight of the year for 2010. Jung has some defensive holes that someone with better technique will take advantage of but he has an iron chin that allows him to get away with the defensive flaws. The Zombie is a welcome addition to the WEC's 145lb class and hopefully in his next outing he wont be the victim of incompetent judging and/or national favoritism. The WEC 48 Preliminary card results are below:
Leonard Garcia def. Chan Sung Jung via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Anthony Pettis def. Alex Karalexis via submission (triangle choke) - Round 2
