Shine Fights LW GP: Drew Fickett Wins, Subs All Three Opponents

From the edge of obscurity Drew Fickett came out the Shine Fights Lightweight Grand Prix Champion. I was amazed that Shine Fights was actually able to put the card together after the last minute move and major letdown with the Thomas/Mayorga fight.

First up for Fickett was Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett whom Drew tapped with a standing guillotine choke for the win. Next up was Dennis Bermudez who got caught in a rear naked choke to end his grand prix run. Finally he met up with Carlo Prater in the finals and also submitted Prater with a rear naked choke to take the Grand Prix Tournament.

The competition was obviously not the best in the world but that is not a bad list of names to have in your win column, especially in one night. Hopefully Drew can keep it together and not flake out on fights or something stupid that keeps him out of the ring. He is an exciting guy to watch and I for one am glad to see him do well.

It was an embarrassingly poor event won by the weakest competitor in the tourney simply because he fought for the least amount of time. Because Shine didn't allow for proper recovery for fighters, the tourney was a joke. The end result was fitting for Shine.

Weakest competitor? Do you know anything about MMA?

Fickett and Prater should have been the favorites.. Who was in the main event again? I know Prater lost prior, but how ironic?

Baker beat drew last year. Baker and Warfield should have never fought first round. They should have brought back Warfield to fight in the finals. And the recovery does affect the fighters. Drew would never win a fight if it was mostly stand up. He has this stragedy that he brings fighters down to the grown so he can submit them. So he will pretend to fall to the ground so he ends up on his back.He gives up a position so he can sweep up from the side to end up on the fighters back for the RNC. Its very obvious his weekness is his stand up, so make him stand. Stop letting him fool you fighters. Study his fights, its the same moves.
