GUILLERMO JONES FOLLOWING THE CRUISERWEIGHT DREAM MOVING TO HEAVYWEIGHT

Guillermo Jones TKO 11 Valery Brudov TIME: 2:16

Jones has been a fixture in the cruiserweight division for some time now. He is a 2 time cruiserweight world champion winning the WBO, and the WBA world titles. He has beat plenty of good names in the division as well including Wayne Braithwaite, Firat Arslan, and Kelvin Davis. He also lost to the number 1 rated Steve Cunningham by split decision. Guillermo's October 2nd win was his first activity in two years. Many people thought he would lose to the slitly more active Russian, Brundov after such a long lay off. Jones used his height to fend off the the worthy challenger. He counter punched him as he tried to get inside. He sliced up Brudov's face with lacerations. The fight was called to a halt at the 21:16 mark of the 11Th round, due to a cut over the Russian's left eye. He looked sluggish while trig to shake the ring rust off during the early rounds but found himself mid way through. If he can keep busy he may be someone to watch, at least for fun. Foreshadowing his move to heavyweight, He called out the WBA heavyweight champion David Haye after his victory, foreshadowing his move to heavyweight. Because of his popularity among fans and fighters Haye can fight about anyone from either the heavyweight, and cruiserweight divisions right now. Guillermo is a long shot right now to land that fight, because there are so many in front of him that deserve it more. I can see King billing this fight "Little Big Men". They both moved up to heavyweight from lower weight classes, Jones all the way from welterweight. Jones like his Panamanian idol (Roberto Duran) before him who has also made the transition to heavyweight. As crazy as a match up as it sounds, and the way Haye picks his opponents maybe he has a better shot at landing that huge fight than we think.

Heavyweight SHOCKER!!! Vitali KO's Unheralded Sosnowski

(Mama said knock you out)

Vitali Klitschko is not to blame for the abysmal Heavyweight fights that are out there for him, and he did what was supposed to with his latest "Bum of the month" club member. As a matter of fact it may be that the Klits are so good that the Heavyweight division is better off than it looks against these two giants. How would they fair against the greats of old? It really isn't worth speculating. All we need to know at this point is they are nearly unbeatable in today's Heavyweight landscape.

Saturday night Vitali retained his WBC belt with a 10th round KO win over Pole Albert Sosnowski. It would have been a big deal if Albert had pulled the upset both because he was such an underdog, and because he would have become the first Heavyweight from Poland to hold the HW belt.

The next opponent for Vitali should be clear for anyone who has listened to the ramblings of David Haye. It seems however that David Haye is all talk when it comes to a Klitschko fight as he has had every opportunity to make the fight between either brother come to fruition and instead offered up lame excuses for his tail being between his legs.

Vitali also mentioned fighting Valuev if Haye cannot get his heart from the wizard in time. That fight would be an interesting one simply because of the size between the two giants. It would no doubt be a victory for Vitali, but interesting none the less. In the meantime, there is another Pole in the Heavyweight landscape by the name of Adamek who just might give the big man a better run for his money than his other options.

A RESPONSE TO THE HAYE BANDWAGON

I would love to see David Haye unify the titles but he wont, I just don't see that happening. Here are some of the reasons. Once again this is just my opinion so if you don't like it too bad, write a retort. Like I said I might eat my words and when that time comes we will see. Every one is on the Haye bandwagon, it will take me a lot more to crown him the best in the division.

People who say his chin isn't made of glass should look at the facts.
KOed by Carl Thompson
Knocked down by Monte Barrett who can punch
Knocked down by Jean Marc Mormeck

Who called out David Haye? Bernard Hopkins, Tomasz Adamek, James Toney, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, Audley Harrison, Chris Arreola

Wladimir Klitschko called him out before the Ruiz fight after Haye already backed out of a contract with him.

"I would prefer to fight him in a soccer arena but I would fight him in a car parking lot if necessary."

Tomasz Adamek called him out after Haye won the WBA belt.

“You call yourself the best heavyweight fighter in the world after running scared for the whole fight with Nikolai Valuev? It’s not even funny.”
"Talking is cheap, People don't care how big you are during the press conferences. They want to see a man in the ring. I never say too much before my fights and my opponents are not saying a lot afterwords because they are knocked down. You say you want to be a people's champion. If so fight me . That's what the people want."

James Toney called him out when he said he was going to fight at heavyweight. Not even a response from the fearless Haye, people say never duck anyone.

"David Haye is a comedian. Is he scared of an old, fat, short guy? He has done nothing to even deserve a fight Wladimir Klitschko. He won the cruiserweight title by beating an old guy and a guy who can't fight.
"If he got the balls, let's sign a contract and do this. My record is proven. Come and try to beat me. All golden boy has to do is call Dan."
"As terrible as Klitschko is he will beat Haye. Haye has no chin and no heart. He proved that against Carl Tompson years ago. Things don't change. He is a typical Euro and British fighter. They get fed a bunch of bums and come over here and don't want to fight a good fighter. I will destroy David Haye. He will never fight again. Every fighter I fight I ruin them. They are never the same again."

Going after the Klits? He had 2 chances to fight both of them and he backed out like little child. A made up back injury, and he pulled out of the other fight to fight the slow lumbering giant, great move. People love to talk trash about the Klitschko brother but they have fought everyone in the heavyweight division. They have beaten every challenger that has stepped up as of late.
Who did he get his belt from? How is that cleaning out the division?
Enzo was no good, in the first place. who did Enzo beat?
He got his WBO belt after Johnny Nelson retired.Wow, good call on Enzo he was a paper champ.
Jean Marc Mormeck was good guy but old, and he got knocked down by him in that fight not so much total domination. The title he got from the Russian is also suspect. Valuev won that title on 2 bad decisions from Jon Ruiz. Ruiz was a paper champ because he won that title when it was vacant. Roy Jones gave up that belt so he never really won it. Yea he beat Valuev who beat Ruiz who beat no one.

Haye never fought for the IBF title (Steve Cunningham) won that title in May of 2007, Haye instead of fighting Cunningham a more superior boxer, he fought for the PRESTIGIOUS WBO title against Enzo after he beat Mormeck in 07.
He was in the division for years when he could have fought Adamek, and Cunningham.
He would lose to the top 2 guys in the cruiser weight division right now, Steve Cunningham, who he wouldn't fight , and Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

HOW WILL DAVID HAYE DO AGINST SOME OF THE REST OF THE HEAVYWEIGHTS

KING DAVID?

David Haye is exactly what the heavyweight division needs right now. David Haye has speed, power, excitement, and the mouth to sell it all. I would like to see nothing more than Haye unifing the titles and ruling the division with power. I just don't see it happening because there is one problem his chin. It is true he just TKOed John Ruiz but come on Ruiz is as dangerous as a chinch bug. My problem with Haye is that he didn't even fight the best in the cruiserweight division, and he claimed he cleaned it out. He never fought Steve Cunningham, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, Marco Huck, or Tomasz Adamek. If he can't, or wont fight either Vitali, or Wladimir Klitschko I think a logical opponent would be the winner of the Tomasz Adamek, Chris Arreola match up. I don't see David Haye fairing very well against of any of the men I just mentioned.

Chris Arreola vs. David Haye
I don't think he is durable enough to beat Arreola. Chris is a tough Mexican from Riverside California who took a tremendous beating from Vitali Klitschko and was angry they stopped the fight. He is big, strong, powerful, and is very aggressive, which would be a huge problem for Haye. Other than his loss to Vitali he has done a good job in the heavyweight division. He knocked out Jameel McCline, Travis Walker, and Brian Minto. Haye got knocked down by feather fisted Monte Barrett. I think the constant pressure from the legit heavyweight Arreola would break Haye. I would pick Chris Arreola to win by knockout in the middle rounds or as soon as he connected with some real power.

Tomasz Adamek vs. David Haye
There was another reason other than big money fights that David Haye didn't stick around the cruiserweight division and his name is Tomasz Adamek. Tomasz is a Polish, power-punching, machine with an iron chin, that can box on top of that. His only loss came to pound for pound great Chad Dawson and he knocked him down in that fight. He has also made the move to the heavyweight division but was originally a light heavyweight. He started his heavyweight campaign by knocking out the old Polish heavyweight legend Andrew Golota. Then he beat a very game Jason Estrada in a boxing match. I just don't think David's chin will hold up to the power that Adamek brings. I'm not sure that Tomasz is even capable of being knocked out let alone hurt. Adamek would win by knocking David clean out once he wore down the Britt.

Vitali Klitschko vs. David Haye
Either one of the Klitschko brothers offer many match up problems for the quick fighter from London. Vitali moves much more quick then he looks on TV. He keeps the fight at the right distance for him to land, and you to look silly. He holds his hands low to invite his opponents in as he counters them with power. They think they are in range when they come in but, he has already moved an struck with power. The height wouldn't be as big of a problem as it would with Wladimir, because he crouches down. Another problem he offers Haye is his chin, it is tough and has been battle tested. Haye would have some early success because of his speed but when Vitali adjusted he would take over and destroy him. I would pick Vitali to win by knockout, in the mid rounds.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye
Many think he would have a better chance against the younger of the Klitschko brother but I 'm not so sure. Wladimir fights big and uses his height to his advantage while fighting behind his jab. His jab is a dangerous weapon and breaks down his opponents over the span of the fight. It also serves as a tool to keep his opponents at bay. Many people underestimate how good he is because of his cautious style. He is very dominant and has been since he employed the services of Manny Steward. The reason that makes this fight more interesting to many people is the fact that Wlady has been knocked out before and his chin is not as good as his brother. Wladimir does better when he fights people that throw power punches like David Haye. Haye is not afraid to open up so he would be punished for that fact against the younger of the bothers. He would get picked apart with Klitschko's jab. He would get frustrated and start taking more chances which would get him knocked out. He would be weary by the middle rounds and be exhausted by the late if it got that far.

I just don't see a man who backed out of fights from both brother winning a fight against either of them. People will say it is not about fear and site the back injury and the so-called bad contract, but that is weak. He has had many other fighters call him out at heavyweight and has not answered the challenge. He has fought the slow freak show Valuev, John not so dangerous Ruiz, and now he is talking about fighting Valuev again. He is just a flash in the pan, an exciting boxer that is over rated. All of the people who have gotten on the Haye bandwagon express will be jumping off as soon as he fights a decent heavyweight. Weither it is Arreola, Adamek, or either of the Klitschko brothers he will get beat He is too sloppy he throws wild punches and that will get him destroyed by a technician. So, bring on the hate I'm just stating my opinion, and that real talk.

BERNARD HOPKINS VS. ROY JONES JR.: WHAT REALY WENT DOWN?

Bernard Hopkins W 12 Roy Jones Jr. SCORES: 118-109, 117-110, 117-110

If you didn't see the very odd spectacle that was Saturday night then the news of a unanimous decision victory for seemed normal. I have been watching boxing for many years and this fight was one of the most ridiculous I have ever seen. I have seen some odd occurrences and this one ranks up there with the best of them. Oliver McCall having a nervous breakdown in the ring against Lennox Lewis, Fan-Man, and Bowe VS. Golota. Most boxing writers are saying it can be one of 2 things, Hopkins got old, or it was just a plane foul fest. I am going to write a few of my own ideas on what really happened between these 2 legends Saturday night. I felt robbed after this fight, not because it was a bad fight but because it just didn't seem right. People are going to say I'm crazy and I don't know what I'm talking about but I don't care. I have been watching, and been around boxing since I was a kid, and I know what I saw. I have never attacked Bernard Hopkins or shed him in a negative light so you can't say I'm trashing him. I love that sport of boxing and have defended it my whole life, but something doesn't feel right. Read my article, watch the fight again and make your own conclusion this is just my observation and opinion.

1. Roy Jones Jr. really got into B-Hop's head and the fight got emotional. It is hard to believe this one because B-Hop has been through everything as a pro. He has dealt with trash talk many times before and done fine, even excelled. He has also dealt with people he doesn't like, maybe not as much as Roy. Although he didn't seem himself at all in that fight, other then the veteran dirty tactics.

2. Hopkins really got hurt from the rabbit punch to the back of the head. I don't think so because it looked like he barely got hit. He was clearly acting when he got hit, and he never acts he gets revenge. He was also acting when he got hit low, RJ got hit harder, and lower and didn't cry. He was carrying on after the fight like he was hurt from the rabbit punches also. I know one shot can effect a whole fight but not in this case.

3. In boxing you can get old in in 1 night in the ring, and Hopkins did. I don't think so he still looked like he had good reflexes. He looked a little tired but not enough for him to fight like that. He looked good in spots and it just seemed he wasn't trying. He is also always in shape, and live a healthy lifestyle. So you can't say he was out of shape. He just went 12 rounds with a much younger man 12 months ago. He been proving people wrong for years, and we will only know this answer after his next fight.

4. (My idea) He carried Roy Jones Jr. for 12 rounds in order to entice David Haye into a fight, or got some sort of illegal pay day for not knocking Jones out. If he went out and destroyed Jones he would have been criticized for it, and that could have scared Haye. We know how skittish Haye gets when people want to fight him. He backed out of 2 Klitschko fights citing an injury and a bad contract, when we know it was fear. He let Roy off the hook so many times in that fight it wasn't funny. He backed off when he had Roy on the ropes when he could have hurt him. He was reacting to most of Roy's faints when he never bites on faints from almost anyone. The whole thing seemed fake from Hopkins post fight with Ornelas when he was trying to sell the fight. To the post fight when he had his corner man put ice on the back of his head. Hopkins is a notorious slow starter and he started fast against Roy. When he does damage to a fighter early in a fight it takes its toll, not with Roy. He didn't really inflict damage on Roy, if he would have he would have got the 60-40 split. He wasn't very confident after the fight like he has been in every fight he has ever fought including his losses. When the referee told him he got a point he got up almost immediately. When the second rabbit punch foul occurred and the ref told him he wasn't taking a point he magically got better. Hopkins has been ducking Chad Dawson for a while now. His performance in this fight gives his the excuse to loose to him, or even retire into oblivion. I felt like Nick Nolte when he was watching the video tape of one of his star players shaving points in Blue Chips. If he gets his fight with Haye and he beats him we will all know the Jones fight was a farce. On the other hand if he doesn't get that fight. If he has to fight Chad Dawson and he gets beat bad people will site the Jones fight as the night he got old. B-Hop looking bad against Jones only works in his favor. I thought he hated Jones and if he did why wouldn't he just have punished him. He would have went for the KO if he really hated Jones. I just don't believe Danny Green can KO Jones and B-Hop can't, it just doesn't add up.He got the win but at what price, if this is true he hurts the sport of boxing that has given him a second chance at life.

AND THE NEW.....HAYE DOESN'T GET THE KO BUT HE DOES GET THE WIN

This was a closely fought contest with the smaller one coming out on top with a 12 round decision. Haye was throwing Haye-makers all night but his best one didn't land until the 12Th. Haye's movement and quickness got him the decision against the lumbering giant. The beautiful baby-faced champ Valuev fought as well as he could against a smaller quicker man. He landed a bunch of decent punches, mostly his jab and an occasional right or left. With out the power to hurt Haye the champ was fighting an up hill battle from the start. You can't fault the giant he gave it his all it just wasn't enough. I guess he wasn't all talk he stood in there with a giant and won, but it wasn't as impressive as he said it would be. Although a win is a win, Haye will have to show a lot more to even have a chance with each other of the Klitschko brothers. So what did we learn from this fight? For me it just reinforced the fact that The giant Russian can not be in an exciting fight, and anyone who fights with him will look bad. What did we learn about Haye? Well, he can go 12 with an heavyweight big man that can't punch and he will be here until he fights a decent heavyweight.

GREAT BOXING ON TV THIS WEEKEND

November 7Th

Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson

This is a great rematch that Dawson won the first time, I thought Johnson won. I am picking Johnson to win in what most people would call an upset to line up a third fight. In this fight you get to see a young, highly skilled phenom Chad Dawson try to show his speed and power to beat a man who wont go down easy. Glen Johnson will pressure Dawson smothering him trying to take his legs, and go for a KO. This fight will be on HBO at 9:30PM ET so be ready or record it.

Alfredo Angulo vs. Harry Joe Yorgey

Everybody knows El Perro and how ferocious he can be and how weak he looked against Kermit Cintron, which one will show up. Not too many people know Harry Joe Yorgey, but he is good. I know this because he knocked out Detroit representative and son of legend Ronald Hearns. This fight could go either way it Yorgey can box and move he can beat Angulo but if he can't he will be malled badly. Either way this should be an entertaining fight to watch as an under card bout on the Dawson/Johnson fight on HBO.

Nikolai Valuev vs. David Haye

This is truly a David vs. Goliath fight with the 7 ft Russian giant going up against the UK loudmouth and blown up cruiser weight David Haye. This is a slow lumbering giant with OK skills facing a very fast fighter with a mighty punch. This one is hard to pick, if Haye can hurt Valuev early and get him out of there he can win. If he can't he will be tired and possibly set up the big man for the KO. I know Haye will get exposed but will it happen against the giant probably not . Having said this I'm picking Haye in an ugly fight, I like to pick the smaller guy it makes the fight much more fun to watch. It can be a bad decision in Russia because anything can happen just ask "The Real Deal". Even if Haye wins he will get crushed by a number of heavyweights including The Klitschko brother which he is afraid of.

Also Wednesday on ESPN2 we have Jr lightweight Jason Litzau in action against Johnnie Edwards. This should be a fun fight to watch and all 10 rounds will be fought hard. On Saturday Joel Casamayor against Jason Davis, and Zab Judah is against Ubaldo Hernandez are back in action in the welterweight division. This could set up a fight between the two and it would also be fun to watch if it ever materialize.

Weekend Fights

Juan Baby Bull Diaz's undefeated reign came to an end at the hands of Nate Campbell. Diaz's corner was not prepared for the cut over Juan's left eye which ultimately had diaz on the defense for the second half of the fight. Campbell came out banging and earned the decision win over Juan. In Campbell we have a shit talking, showboat as a champion instead of a classy young man like Diaz. This news no doubt had the parasite that is Don King with a hard on in the ring, as this was Diaz's last fight on his contract with King.

Samuel Peter TKO'd Oleg Maskeav in 6 to win the WBC heavyweight title. The knockout has been something that has been eluded in many of the heavyweight contests of late, so a decisive victory by someone was needed.

David Haye stopped Enzo Macirinelli in only two rounds to to win the WBC, WBA and WBO cruiser weight titles. Haye stopped Enzo in impressive fashion and now looks to take on the Heavyweight division.

Shamrock gets rocked in London. Ken Shamrock was TKO'd by Cage Rage resident journeyman in Robert "Buzz" Berry. Shamrock looked slow and much smaller than Berry, and had no offense. Berry landed a few shots, stuffed a takedown before Ken hit the floor.
