Martin Honorio W 12 Wilton Hilario SCORES: 119-107, 120-106, 119-107
El Brochas did what he had to do against the untested Hilario who had no business being in the ring with him. Even though he won every round on my card, he still didn't look that good and he should have finished Hilario. He may own the WBO NABA Lightweight Title, and have beaten two undefeated prospects in Molina (who was on the under card) and Hilario he has no chance of making any real waves in the lightweight division. He will get beat by, and probably finished by any of the Ring's top 10 rated lightweights. Honorio throws his punches from weird angles because of his lanky frame, and that leaves him open to counters . Anyone who has tighter more compact punching, or is a good counter puncher will have the equation to beat Martin. I'm not sure why they even picked Hilario for the main event or even called him a prospect because he can even throw a jab. He was untested, because if he was a real prospect he would have probably won. Hilario was walking in with no jab the whole night to try to get close. The whole time he was being out scored by the veteran Mexican fighter. Martin Honorio was picking off the less talented pressure guy all night with his own lack-luster jab. It was doing its job by keeping Hilario at the right distance, so he could land some power shots. He made Hilario pay for not working his way in. The only round you could have given the so-called prospect was the second ( I didn't) because he got in side and actually worked. The 6TH round Hilario was knocked down 2 times because of his over aggressive forward movement. The first of the two knockdowns was because of a right hand left hook combination that landed pretty flush. The second was a crisp right hand when Hilario was in trouble against the ropes. The rest of the fight had a wild Honorio tyring to finish the untested Hilario. He couldn't even finish a man who has never made it passed the 8TH round. This was easily the worst Friday Night Fights of the year, I was simply disappointed.
Rico Ramos KO 4 Cecilio Santos TIME: 1:19
Rico Ramos is a "special" prospect with a lot of potential, and if he continues to progress he will have a bright future. He was in against a guy who has been knocked out in 3 of his last 4 fights, Ramos made it 4 out of 5. He hasn't been in there with top competition and this fight was no different. Unlike Honorio he did what he was supposed to do, he knocked his guy out. Santos has a weak body and has been knocked out because of it before, the plan was to expose his body. It worked because he knocked him out in the forth with a vicious left hook to the body. Ramos is quick and can throw a lead left hook when he wants to. He was using his jab as a range finder and to keep him at a good distance. He also turned his jab in to a hook, often through out the 4 round fight. He looked pretty good against inferior competition and I would like to see him step up soon. The thing that he did very well was set up his power punches. He landed to the body to open up the head and the head to get to the body. He supposedly got the better of Guillermo Rigondeaux in sparring at the Wild Card Gym. If this is true then he is defiantly for real because Rigondeaux is no joke. He was fighting with a heavy heart because on of his corner men died just 6 week ago at 38 years of age. He dedicated the fight to his fallen corner man and friend Darius Watson.
