Juan Manuel Marquez W 12 Juan Diaz SCORES: 117-111, 116-112, 118-110
Jaun Manuel Marquez got the job done in impressive fashion against the Baby Bull. It wasn't the war that many expected. Marquez dominated the lopsided fight en route to a unanimous decision. Even though the Houston native Diaz fought valiantly the elder Juan got the win. Their first fight was fight of the year in 2009, and the promoters were praying it would happen again. Marquez ran his record to an impressive 51-5-1. Marquez was quicker and used his jab to pick apart Juan Diaz. He was landing hard counter punches and Diaz had no answer. Marquez didn't go unscathed in the fight as his eye was swollen shut. It was a thumb that caused all of the damage to Marquez's eye. He stated " In the 4Th, and 8Th round I could felt the thumb go into my eye." Amir Khan wanted to fight the Mexican legend next but he still has dreams of fighting Manny Pacquiao for the third time. When asked about what he thought about a Marquez-Pacquiao Trilogy, he said, "I'm right here, I'm right here, there's no hiding. I'm waiting for him. That is what boxing needs, and he needs a fighter that can beat him. So, when ever he is ready to knock on my door. You know I'll be right here." WBO Interim champion Michael Katsidis asked if he was willing to defend against him. He then responded by stating Manny Pacquiao is, and always has been his priority. He didn't back down like many fighters would, remember he is Mexican. He said " Obviously if the Pacquiao fight doesn't happen then I have to defend my titles with honor, and that's what I'll do." One thing for sure is Marquez has plenty of options at 135, and 140. There are a ton of great match ups, and he stands to make a ton of money. Juan Diaz has only 2 wins in his last six fights. Juan Diaz want to practice law and maybe that is what he should focus on. Hopefully the LSAT test is not as tough as the last few guys he fought. Marquez took home a ton of money for this fight as he earned $1 million to Diaz's $540,000. We know that Marquez is a legend and a hero to the Mexican people, and Juan Diaz agreed stating in the post fight press conference "He is a future hall of famer, and it was a great honor to be in the ring with him for 2 great fights."
